Adweek names Apple the ‘Brand of the Decade’

AdweekMedia’s Best of the2000’s brought some of the best advertising awards of 2000’s. And Apple ended up recieving top honors in 6 categories including Brand of the Decade” and “Marketer of the Decade” for Steve Jobs. AppleInsider as usual did a great job covering this even on its blog:

Naming Apple the “Brand of the Decade,” AdweekMedia attributes the brand’s success to Steve Jobs, calling Apple “the embodiment of a living, breathing person.” Jobs was named “Marketer of the Decade” and is credited with relaunching the Apple brand with the “Think Different” ad campaign. Apple’s CEO is described as being visionary, iconoclastic, and fearless. Jobs is also up for Time’s Person of the Year and was named “CEO of the Decade” by Fortune in November.

With 220 million iPods sold worldwide, Apple’s music player was named “Product of the Decade” and is compared to the Walkman in terms of cultural impact.

Two of Apple’s iconic ad campaigns are represented on the list, with the “Get a Mac” ads winning “Campaign of the Decade” and “Silhouettes” winning “Out-of-Home Ad of the Decade.”

Apple iPhone May Go to T-Mobile Next

T-Mobile To Pickup iPhone In 2010?

The iPhone is arguably the most loved or loathed phone available right now, and AT&T has absolutely reaped tremendous rewards from being the sole carrier. However, Apple
and AT&T know the exclusivity agreement between them won’t last forever, with current estimates putting iPhone exclusivity in jeopardy sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2010. So while rumors run amok regarding a possible Verizon/Apple venture, we ask the question, what about T-Mobile? Thankfully a Thomas Weisel analyst states via TheStreet that T-Mobile is actually the more likely suitor for the iPhone, rather than Verizon. To call this speculation would be hitting the nail on the head but analysts have been known to be right one or two times before, therefore we take it with a level of trepidation. That being said, I think I can safely say that T-Mobile would surely see rewards from carrying the iPhone, provided the network actually works, something AT&T has trouble saying with a straight face these days. The real question here is, will Apple consider T-Mobile a viable partner to help expand the iPhone offering to a larger customer base or will they want to partner up with larger, more expansive partners?!

News Analysis: The iPhone might be a great device that appeals to many, but the smartphone still lacks several key features that could make it perfect for any user. There is still much that Apple could do to improve its appeal to business users and to greatly expand the application developer community.

1. No Go, Enterprise
2. Multitasking?
3. Where's the Physical Keyboard?
4. We Need Open Source
5. Some Friendly Developer Rules
6. Interchangeable Batteries
7. VOIP over 3G
8. Carrier-Agnosticism
9. Removable Storage
10. Shortage of Serious Competition

Apple iPhone Commands 50% Share of Worldwide Mobile Data Traffic

"Apple's slice of mobile data traffic has grown to now exceed 50% share in the US, UK and in global figures, according to the latest monthly mobile data traffic report by AdMob," Prince McLean reports for AppleInsider.

"In the worldwide market, AdMob notes that Apple advanced its lead in smartphone traffic share from 43% last month to an even 50%. Symbian slipped from 29% to 25%, while third place Android grew from 10% to 11%. RIM's share fell slightly from 8% to 7%, Windows Mobile dropped from 5% to 3%," McLean reports.

MacDailyNews Note: In October 2009, 70 percent of iPhone OS requests came from the iPhone while the remaining 30 percent came from the iPod touch.

"In the US, AdMob reports that Apple advanced by 7.2% from 48% to 55% of all mobile traffic, while Android grew from 17% to 20% (almost entirely from sales of HTC models). RIM slipped slightly from 14% to 12%, while an initial surge of traffic by Palm Pre WebOS users collapsed from 10% to just 5% in October," McLean reports. "In the UK, Apple's share grew even larger, advancing from 71% in September to a commanding 74% share in October. Symbian and Android both slipped a percentage point, from 12% and 11% in the previous report to 11% and 10% in October, respectively."
